Utah Beach
Due to strong currents and German mines channeling them elsewhere, the troops at Utah actually landed a mile or so east of where they were supposed to. The area where they were supposed to land (which I call "not Utah" for convenience) is more pristine with several intact bunkers and "Tobruks" (a fighting position for a soldier with a mortar or machine gun reinforced with concrete). Not to mention zillions of sea shells (Our guide says they farm mussels near here).
Bunkers at "not Utah" - Photos by Kyle. The best part about "Not Utah" was we had it all to ourselves
Here are my pictures. It was raining, so a couple of my photos have water on the lens. Which also meant I had to mess with the exposure of several of them come out decently (except for the sky). Oh well, what can you do?
Closeup of above. I brought some home for Katrina (relics were off limits, seashells were up for grabs)
And the real Utah Beach
They blasted a pathway through the dunes
This Bunker at Utah beach was turned into a café and gift shop
